It all started when…

I was six years old. I didn’t really know what storytelling was, but I knew that I could use words to make things happen. So using letters and drawings, I created my first masterpiece about a girl who pretends to run away from home but who actually only hid in the cabinets.

I’m a southern girl, through and through, and this greatly influences my work. We southerners are well-known for our ability to spin a good tale, but for me writing is more than that. My stories - which almost always enter Blackness and women - are love letters to my ancestors, both known and unknown.
